Benefits of Including Calendula into your Summer Skincare Routine

This post is sponsored by Bloomingdale’s and ShopStyle. I love partnering with brands that I love and trust. Post ideas and opinions are my own.

Happy Wednesday, friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! After a weekend of relaxation, I am struggling to get back into the swing this week! Thankfully, the kids only have about a week left of school until they are out for the summer! And, speaking of summer, I am super excited to be partnering with Bloomingdale’s today to chat about the benefits of including calendula into your summer skincare routine. There are so many benefits to incorporating it into your skincare routine, especially in the summer! The main product that I am excited to try and test over the next few summer months is the Kiehl’s Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream. Have you tried any of the Kiehl’s calendula products before? This is a new to me product and ingredient, but I have heard, read and learned great things about calendula in preparation for this post. I know there are a lot of people who have been using and loving these products and other calendula based products for years, though. A few friends have said the calendula toner is their absolute favorite, so it’s definitely on my list to try as well. I have also heard amazing things about the calendula and aloe mask, which is another great one to add into the summer routine to add more hydration.

After a weekend in Arizona, I am even more excited to try this water cream for the hydration aspect alone. When you are coming from significant humidity like we have in Houston, the dry desert air is hard on the skin, no matter how much lotion and oil you use. Summer brings lots of harsh things into play for the skin and this is why it’s a perfect time to add calendula to your daily routine. Kiehl’s has numerous calendula based products that you can find at Bloomingdale’s and specifically, this new Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream is definitely a great addition to any daily routine, especially in the hot and (potentially) dry summer climates. I am really excited to try this one over the next few months!

Let’s get into the benefits of calendula and why summer is a great time to incorporate the Kiehl’s Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream.

Benefits of Calendula

  • Visibly evens skin tone and boosts radiance in just 1 week
  • Helps visibly reduce redness in just 2 weeks
  • Helps improve uneven texture, dull skin and dry fine lines
  • Softens skin immediately with lasting 24-hour hydration

And just to give you a bit more about this neat little ingredient that is calendula, here are some calendula facts that I pulled from the Kiehl’s website:

WHAT IS CALENDULA?

Native to the Mediterranean, Calendula officinalis, or pot marigold, is an herbaceous plant commonly used in herbal and skincare products. Thought to bloom on the first of the month, this perennial’s name stems from the Latin “kalendae” which means “little calendar” or “the first day of every month.” Calendula flowers are orange or gold with a strong, fresh aroma. A trusted herb for many centuries, Calendula is known to have been traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

IS CALENDULA GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN?

Our Calendula Extract and petals are scientifically tested to provide a lasting, continuous supply of discomfort-reducing compounds. Each individual Calendula petal contains five compounds—Oleanic Acid, Lupeol, Quercetin, α Amyrin and β Amyrin. These efficacious compounds have been studied and are known to provide antioxidant protection, soothe skin and reduce discomfort.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CALENDULA?

The effective compounds within Calendula help soothe and visibly improve skin. By helping to reduce discomfort, our formulas with Calendula petals and extract help skin look smooth, radiant and dewy-fresh. Within our Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream, these compounds even help skin resist early signs of aging over time including dull skin, dry fine lines, and uneven skin tone and texture.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON USES OF CALENDULA?

In addition to skincare products with Calendula, this edible herb is often used in food and tea. Calendula petals may be mixed in with salads, steeped to create a soothing tea or used as a substitute for saffron. Yellow dye has also been extracted from the flower and used to color fabrics and foods.
