Happy Wednesday, friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! As my kids have gotten older, posts with them included are definitely few and far between, these days! I’m really excited to share some of them in today’s summer chores post!
Summer is in full swing here and after a few days of rest, relaxation and stuff everywhere, I decided we needed to get our summer chores together on a list. Now, don’t get me wrong, summer is supposed to be fun! And our summer is fun, but we also need to keep up with a routine, our life gets too chaotic! So, we needed a little routine in our lives! If your kids are anything like mine, then they probably love checking items off their lists. I went through and made a list of all the items that I wanted them to do daily and so far it’s been great!
I added the gratitude journal because I saw it in a friend’s Instagram story and thought it was the perfect addition to our day. Sometimes it’s hard to remember all the things we are thankful for and I think a daily journal is a huge help in reminding us all just how good we have it. I ask them to write three things they are grateful for each day. Somedays it’s trivial things like the iPad (ahem, Teddy), but other times its “family, God, Jesus,” so I let the iPad thing slide. Ha! I really like to have the kids complete their list at the start of the day so that we get to over with. Some days, when it’s completed, they will get an hour on their iPads or extra tv time. It really just depends on the day. But, all in all, we are enjoying slower days and lots of free time!
THE ULTIMATE SUMMER CHORES CHECKLIST TO STRUCTURE YOUR SUMMER
I personalized our summer chores lists to fit our needs, but you can easily create your own that includes what you’d like your kiddos to accomplish earth day! I did attach a pdf that you can print out yourself, if you like my list ideas!

Also, my kids are doing these workbooks each day. Teddy’s teacher recommended them to keep their minds working throughout the summer! Both kids are also participating in the school summer reading challenge, so it’s pretty easy for them to get their 20 minutes of reading in, each day, too. Teddy loves reading so much that he logged 4 hours the other night. He stayed up reading a book because “it was too good, mom!” Totally takes after his mom in that aspect! Ha!
One more fun thing that my kids are doing this summer. I wanted them to work together to film and edit a movie. I am a television production and broadcast journalism major, so I think filming and editing are great life skills. Plus, it’s a great way for them to work together on a project! After they finish it, then we will have a movie premiere here at the house, with popcorn and everything. They’ve decided to film the majority of their movie while we are on vacation in a few weeks. I also had them work together to brainstorm a list of movie ideas! They took an hour long course at the apple store for the basics of iMovie and learned some great stuff. I wanted to share Teddy’s trailer with you because we all loved it so much! My niece loved it so much that she said “when is it coming to theaters?!” I’m not sure how this project will end up, but I do think it’s a pretty cool and fun idea for them! I will report back and let you know how it goes!
What do you think? Do you love the trailer as much as we do? Are your kids ready for summer at your house? Are you also craving structure amongst the fun and chaos? Do you have your own summer chores checklist or will you be using ours?
Have a fab day, friends! XO
