Happy Monday, peeps! I hope you had a fabulous weekend! I created these mason jar shortcakes a few years ago for a friend’s birthday dinner. They were a huge hit and have been a summer dessert staple ever since. The post needed some updating, so I am re-sharing again today for those of you that haven’t seen this dessert before! This is a perfect dessert to make for the 4th of July or any summer BBQ! I am allergic to strawberries, so I typically make the shortcakes with blueberries (other berries are great too). I’m told the strawberry version is pretty amazing as well. I can’t consume them, but I do still make them for the strawberry lovers in our house! I love anything in a mason jar. See my mojito recipe, macaroni and cheese, berry cobbler and lemon bar posts for more mason jar inspiration.
The Necessities:
Wide Mouth Mason Jars (pint size)
Blueberries or Strawberries (raspberries or blackberries are great too)
Shortcake (I make a gluten free shortcake or I buy at the store)
Whipped Cream (I like homemade better than store-bought…I use this recipe when I make my own)
To create your own shortcakes, just layer the ingredients. There is no secret to it. You can add as much or as little of each thing as you want!
I start with a layer of crumbled shortcake, the add some whipped cream, then add the berries…
Repeat each step until you fill the jars. Such a simple and yummy dessert. I have been known to keep these in the fridge for easy grab and go desserts!
These are a great “make ahead” item! Make these a few hours before a party and pop the lids on and leave them in the fridge until you need them for dessert! How perfect is that?! These would be great for a 4th of July party as well! You could layer blueberries and strawberries for a Red, White and Blue treat!
I always end with a good layer of whipped cream (that’s my fave part!) and add lots of berries on top!
If you don’t serve the shortcakes immediately, be sure to pop the right into the fridge with their lids on!!!!

These are so perfect for a summertime party! Love it! I just may have to get to painting some mason jars so I can fill them with this yummy recipe for my next get-together! Thanks for the great ideas as always!
