Hi friends and happy Monday to you! I hope your week is starting off on the right foot! We are moving and grooving here!! Can you believe we are almost halfway through June? Speaking of June, can you believe, July 4th is almost here? We are headed on a trip for the 4th, like we usually do, and I cannot wait!! I’m super excited to partner with Nordstrom today to share some cute looks to wear this 4th of July and a a few cute looks to wear for family photos too. I’m also sharing my tips for making the most of your family photo sessions. A few weeks ago, we had a little spur of the moment trip to Florida and I was super excited to be able to shoot with the sweetest photographer! I am in love with these pictures that she took of our family and I am thrilled to have these memories from our trip. She really understood our family and got the concept of the kind of looks I was trying to create and I love how they turned out. Plus, you can’t beat the beautiful backdrop that is WaterSound. I always say that I love how Nordstrom is a one stop shop for the whole family and these pictures are total proof of that! I knew the look I wanted to go for…a red, white and blue theme, because these picture outfits can also double as 4th of July outfits in a few weeks. And let’s face, outfits for all the time, too. Reagan has already worn hers a bunch and Mr. Fancy and Teddy too! I am thrilled to wear my sweater when we head on our next trip, since the weather will be a tad cooler than Houston. Nordstrom has such an awesome selection of items that worked so well for the whole family and I really love how these outfits coordinated and how they ended up looking with this beautiful backdrop! My sweet girl wanted to take some pictures of just us. You guys, if your kids want to do this, do it! These moments won’t last forever and I’ll cherish these solo pictures of us, forever!! And we also had a quick outfit change because these dresses are just summer and 4th of July perfection!

Family Picture Tips
-Find a photographer who is good with the kids. This is so key and you really want someone who understands that kids can have their not so easy moments, especially in the midst of a photoshoot. Lollipops are always good to have on hand, too!
-Talk to your photographer ahead of time and make a game plan. Do you have specific shots you want of your family? Let them know! I once used a photographer who did lots of shots where she’d cut off parts of the heads, etc and while a cool way to shoot, it was just not what were looking for and ever since then, I always mention my goals for the outcome, ahead of time.
-Color coordinate your family’s outfits! For this session, I picked out my sweater and Teddy’s shirt as the main pieces and coordinated Mr. Fancy and Reagan to both of us. I love how it turned out and we added different colors and textures, which is always key! I love the element of adding the yellow to this color scheme. It gives it an unexpected pop of color!
-Just get it done! Ha! Don’t expect your kids or husband to hang tight and take photos for over and hour. It’s just too long. Truthfully, we never go over 30 minutes because everyone is usually over it by that point. We paid for an hour session in Maui and ended up finished in less than 45 minutes because we were just able to get the shots. Granted my kids are older, but even when they were toddlers, the timing was even more important. They just can’t hang that long…or at least most can’t!
-Have fun! Love on each other and just take really organic pictures of interacting with each other. Those are always my favorite!
